"Do you need something? Mac can get it for you. It’s what he does—he and his best friend and business manager, Vince. Their methods might sometimes run afoul of the law—or at least the school code of conduct—but if you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can pay him, Mac is on your side. His office is located in the east wing boys' bathroom, fourth stall from the high window. And business is booming.

Or at least it was until this particular Monday. It starts with a third grader in need of protection. And before this ordeal is over, it’s going to involve a legendary high school crime boss named Staples, an intramural gambling ring, a graffiti ninja, the nine most dangerous bullies in school, and the first Chicago Cubs World Series game in almost seventy years. And that’s just the beginning. Mac and Vince soon realize that the trouble with solving everyone else’s problems is that there’s no one left to solve yours.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid meets The Sopranos in this laugh-a-minute mystery from an exciting new talent."
Here's what some people had to say about THE FOURTH STALL:

"Here is an original - a story that really gets how guys are pals.  It's also a story about sixth grade wiseguys that is funny, mysterious, and true to the heart of what really matters when you are in middle school.  Do yourself a favor.  Read it.  Now."  - Jon Scieszka (National Ambassador for Young People's Literature and NYT Best-Selling author)

2012 SCBWI Sid Fleischman Humor Award Winner

Scholastic Book Clubs Bestseller

"Debut novelist Rylander mines a substantial amount of humor and heart from this combination hard-boiled crime novel and middle-grade character piece."  - Publishers Weekly

"The Fourth Stall makes good use of non sequitur humor and a healthy dose of schoolyard violence to draw in even the most apprehensive young reader. Once he has the audience captivated, Rylander eloquently weaves in a story of economic class struggle, the pressure it can put on a friendship, and what it can drive a person to do. The result is a robust story rich in action, adventure, humor, and friendship."  - VOYA

Spring 2011 Indie Next List selection

"Rylander has created a cast of memorable and varied characters, replete with emotional as well as social lives... An excellent boy book that would do well in a father-son book discussion."  - Booklist

Texas Library Association 2012 Lone Star Reading List selection

ND Library Association 2012 Flickertale Award Nominee

"Smart, suspenseful and hilarious... From a bully lineup so funny that language arts teachers will be using it to teach voice and character development, to an ending
as rich in reality as it is steeped in surprise, boys and girls alike will be biting their nails, laughing out loud and begging for the next installment.  Fans of Jeff Kinney, Gordon Kormon and
Jon Scieszka will find a new hero in Rylander..." - Sioux Falls Argus Leader

"Sometimes middle-school readers just wanna have fun. And Rylander, thankfully, steers well clear of made-for-TV life lessons."  - The Cleveland Plain Dealer

"It's actually just as good as any book I've ever read by Clive Cussler or Tom Clancy."  - Roger Rylander (the author's grandpa)

"Eh, it's okay, I guess."  - Chris Rylander (the author)

From the Publisher:
The life of crime is good.  Mac has taken down legendary high school crime boss Staples, business has been booming, and Mac and Vince are getting ready for middle school baseball tryouts. But this can’t last. Mac has always tried to keep his friends close and his enemies closer. But what happens when you can’t tell the difference?

This dilemma walks into the fourth stall in the form of Trixie Von Parkway—an eighth grader with a mean look and an even meaner predicament. The new science teacher is terrorizing her, and she needs Mac to get him off her back. Seems simple enough, but as Mac starts to dig deeper, he finds even more trouble brewing at his school, including a new administrator bent on destroying his business, and indications that Trixie isn’t who she claims to be. In the past, the worst thing that could have happened to Mac was that he might lose a little money, maybe catch a beating. InThe Fourth Stall Part II, though, there’s going to be much more on the line than that.

Here's what some people had to say about THE FOURTH STALL PART II:

"Readers will be flushed with excitement to follow Mac's operations from the fourth stall."  - Kirkus

"Fans of the first Fourth Stall will not be disappointed with this second novel."  -VOYA

"Rylander writes with hilarious wit, giving Vince spectacularly goofy monologues, and creates delightfulminor characters. Those who enjoyed the first round will enjoy this second installment at least as well." -Booklist
